Yachting documentaries are certainly a very different film-world than what I was used to working with big crews in studios or on locations. “Making the film” was the one and only reason for all involved. Actors were actors, but finally they had to do what the director wanted and as often he or the cameraman required to get the shot right. Yachts are different stars now and the nature of their world is often more complicated than shooting with a diva – be it technically to get stable images on the water, be it weather condition wise or even more difficult: the tight shedule of the yachts and their owners. Plus: it is a documentary – nothing will be repeated for us and all is at a low or „no budget“ basis by normal film-standards.

Missing studios, missing big lighting-crews, first class 35mm camera-equipment, yes! Very much! But still working with a tiny crew of one, five or 6 people has it´s advantages and pleasures. You are much more flexible, much faster in many aspects, and much more into it. And you come in contact with very, very gifted people in our case.

Our crew has aspects of a “family business”, which gave us through all ups and downs enchanted moments on the water, moments of friendship, on deck or down below with owners, skippers and crews. Or in famous design offices or yards. We feel honored to have met many inspiring people among sailors, designers, builders and craftsmen – all the way to unforgetable moments with Wolter Huisman on his tug “Grönland” or with the unbelievable rigger Harry Spencer in his office sharing a cheese-sandwich or in St.Tropez´s Senequier, smiling through his broken glasses asking for a helicopter to pick him up….
