In 1997 the rerun of the first official Transatlantic Race of 1905 left no doubt, that the ”Golden Age” of yachting had returned. This was the best opportunity possible to establish the basic concept of this film series in combining current events with the history of yachting.
Most interesting was the participation of ADIX , a yacht which is very close to size and rig to the three masted schooner ATLANTIC, which won the1905 race in a until then still unbeaten record of 12 days – 4 hours from New York to Lizard Point in England. This was the great challenge for a fleet of the worlds finest yachts to beat. The main camera was on board the Max Oertz schooner ”AELLO” who´s skipper addressed his crew: ”It will not be a boje-race ….” He should be right: Aello lost it´s topmast and encountered more problems later on. |
