The renaissance of the ”Classics” also brought these yachts back to the Clyde near Glasgow, where fantastic ones had been designed and built by the Scottish Fife-dynasty during the “Golden Age” of yachting nearly 100 years ago. They are still considered to be the most beautiful yachts ever produced: “Some of these yachts are simply pure and perfect” (Phillipe Lechevallier, Skipper of Moonbeam). They represented “functional art” as American Lance Lee states: art, not only to be enjoyed by the eye ….
The first meeting of the Fife-yachts in 1998 at the place where they have been built was a very good opportunity to record and recall the story of these sailing masterpieces, as well as the rebirth through the painstaking restoration of these elegant vessels by people committed to holding on to those values of the “Golden Age” : Immaculate, beautiful, powerful, fast, seaworthy and strong. |
